MGMS Meeting on Distributed and Grid Computing for the Life Sciences

Meeting Scope

The meeting will provide an update on the technologies being developed to provide super-computer performance on commodity machines and the science being enabled by these technologies. Topics will include the use of Linux Clusters and Farms, Screen-saver type technologies as used in some recent high profile virtual screening exercises, novel hardware such as Blade computing and applications talks.

Speakers

The meeting will open with a presentation from Pat Leach, CIO at Inpharmatica, who will give an overview of the field and discuss the background to Inpharmatica's own solutions.

Other confirmed speakers include Dr. David Boyd Deputy Director of the CLRC e-Science Centre, that hosts the UK Grid Support Centre, Keith Davies, Honorary Research Fellow, Department of Chemistry, Oxford University and head of Treweren Consultants who run find-a-drug.com on a not for profit basis and Phil Butcher from the Sanger Centre.

In addition, technical experts from several of the leading software and hardware vendors have accepted invitations to speak, including Entropia, United Devices, IBM, RLX, Platform Computing and Blackstone Computing.

In addition to the presentations, there will be exhibition stands manned throughout the lunch break.
