{"id":2446,"date":"2025-01-03T14:49:40","date_gmt":"2025-01-03T14:49:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mgms.org\/WordPress\/?p=2446"},"modified":"2025-01-03T16:42:31","modified_gmt":"2025-01-03T16:42:31","slug":"prof-martin-karplus-passes-away","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mgms.org\/WordPress\/uncategorized\/prof-martin-karplus-passes-away\/","title":{"rendered":"Prof Martin Karplus passes away"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\" data-ogsc=\"rgb(0, 0, 0)\" data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">The MGMS is deeply saddened to learn of the death of Honorary Member, Professor Martin Karplus at his home in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on December 28<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a02024, at the age of 94.\u00a0<\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\" data-ogsc=\"rgb(0, 0, 0)\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\" data-ogsc=\"rgb(0, 0, 0)\">He was an emeritus Professor of Chemistry at Harvard, and in a very long and highly distinguished career, he made significant contributions to computational and physical chemistry, including nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, chemical dynamics, quantum chemistry, and molecular dynamics simulations of biological macromolecules. This culminated in his receipt of the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 2013, jointly with Arieh Warshel and Michael Levitt.\u00a0<\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\" data-ogsc=\"rgb(0, 0, 0)\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\" data-ogsc=\"rgb(0, 0, 0)\">The MGMS would like to offer our deepest condolences to Professor Karplus&#8217; family and colleagues.
