2025 MGMS Virtual Lecture Tour & AGM

All MGMS Seminars are free of charge and open to all.
Please register below to attend this event.

The MGMS was formed in 1981 to bring together scientists working in different fields of study—such as chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics and computer science—who have a common interest in computational molecular modelling and molecular graphics. One of our activities is to organize MGMS Lecture Tours to highlight cutting-edge research in the field.

We are pleased to announce the 2025 MGMS Virtual Lecture Tour, featuring presentations from Weria Pezeshkian (University of Copenhagen, 2024 MGMS Frank Blaney Award Winner), Gabriele Corso (MIT), and Siewert-Jan Marrink (University of Groningen). The event will take place on zoom on 29th October 2025, and will be followed by the MGMS AGM.

Please register below to attend.

Zoom connection details for this event will be sent to all registered attendees shortly before the event.

Wednesday, October 28th, 2025 (UK time zone):

  • 2:00-2:15 pm GMT: Introduction
  • 2:15-2:45 pm GMT: Gabriele Corso (MIT): Boltz: “Towards Accurate Biomolecular Modeling and Design”
  • 2:45-3:15 pm GMT: Siewert-Jan Marrink (University of Groningen): “Molecular Dynamics Simulations at the Whole Cell Level”

About Speakers

Gabriele Corso

PhD student, MIT

Gabriele Corso is an fourth-year PhD student at the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) co-advised by Tommi Jaakkola and Regina Barzilay. His research focuses on developing novel ML frameworks to tackle challenging problems in structural biology and drug discovery.

Gabriele did his Bachelor at the University of Cambridge where he wrote his thesis under the supervision of Pietro Lió and Jure Leskovec. Previously, he interned at Twitter Research, D.E. Shaw and Alchera Technologies as a machine learning researcher and at IBM and STMicroelectronics as a software engineer.

He is also part of the core team and mentor at LeadTheFuture, a nonprofit organization helping talented Italian university and high school students reach their potential. He is currently serving as Program Chair and organizer of the Machine Learning for Structural Biology (MLSB) workshop at NeurIPS and organizer of the Molecular Machine Learning (MoML) conference at MIT.

Weria Pezeshkian

Novo Nordisk Foundation Assistant Professor, University of Copenhagen

Weria’s research focuses on the application and development of computational microscopes. Using multiscale schemes, he couples molecular interactions to biological forms at the microscale. His last methodological development allowed for simulations of mitochondrial membranes with realistic size and SARS-CoV-2 virion envelope at the near atomistic level. In the dawn of exascale computing resources, his goal is to simulate cell size structures with a certain level of molecular details. Weria is the 2024 MGMS Frank Blaney Award winner.

Siewert-Jan Marrink

Professor of Molecular Dynamics, University of Groningen

Siewert-Jan and his group will perform coarse-grained simulations of cells to provide a dynamic cells at near-atomic resolution, to be linked with more coarse grained and whole cell models my machine-learning-based techniques.
